Wedding Policy

Wedding Policy
 
Marriage is a sacred covenant. We keep in mind that a Christian wedding is a service of worship. We give praise to God as the source of our love for one another. Our pastor will talk with you about the ceremony.
 
Reservations
 
Reservations for use of church facilities may be made by contacting the church office or the pastor and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. Hallsville United Methodist Church members and groups are given preference as to the time and locations desired.
All requests are subject to review and approval by the pastor and Administrative Council with the right to refuse any request for facility use not compliant with established HUMC guidelines and United Methodist Church doctrine. If a pastor is requested that is not our HUMC pastor, our pastor will have final approval on the reservation.
 
A Facilities Request Form is filled out at the time of the request. A Wedding Application form will be mailed or given to the applicant. A nonrefundable $100.00 deposit is due with the return of the Wedding application at least 4 weeks before the wedding. Other fees due must be delivered to the church office one week prior to the wedding. Members (and their sons and daughters) are not charged a deposit or the following fees, but will be charged a $150.00 cleaning fee. However, a donation to the church is welcome and appreciated to offset utility and staff costs. The church must be notified of any cancellations at least (4) days before the event. The pastor will contact the couple to set up a meeting with the future bride and groom to talk about the ceremony and do counseling. The pastor’s honorarium of $250.00 is not included in these fees. It should be given directly to the pastor.

Music/Sound Equipment and PowerPoint
 
Hallsville United Methodist Church has a sound system including microphones, CD, DVD and tape player, lighting and screen projector. Because of the complicated nature of this equipment, we require (no exceptions) that an HUMC Sound System Engineer and/or PowerPoint operator that are trained on our sound system and other equipment be present for wedding rehearsals and ceremonies during which this equipment is to be used. 
The Sound System Engineer will receive a fee of $100.00 and if a Power Point presentation or video is used the Power Point Engineer will receive a fee of $100.00. All Power Point presentations or videos must be pre-prepared and in the church office no later than one week prior to the ceremony.
 
We have a keyboard in the sanctuary. If you wish to schedule our keyboardist for your wedding/event, the church secretary will give you her phone number. The HUMC keyboardist will receive a $100.00 fee for their services. If you use your own preferred keyboardist a qualified person from HUMC must show them the proper settings for the keyboard and will receive a $40.00 fee for this service.
A church liaison must be present at the rehearsal and the ceremony to answer questions and help direct traffic in the building. The church liaison will receive a $100.00 fee for these services.
 
Facility Use for Weddings
 
All rules for other functions apply to weddings. A person will be present as a liaison from the church to help you find anything you need and to provide direction and support as needed. The church is open M – W – Th – F - 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Decoration of the sanctuary cannot be done before the day of the rehearsal. Floral arrangements should be delivered to the church during regular office hours or other arrangements made. Decorations are to be removed after the end of the service, leaving the sanctuary in its original condition. Absolutely no smoking, alcohol, or drug use is permitted on the church property.
 
The bride and her attendants may dress in the Nursery. The groom and groomsmen may dress in the High School classroom. Please leave the rooms in the same condition you found them.
 
Regulations for Use of the Church Building
 
° There will be no food or drink in the sanctuary other than sacraments.
° Items on the chancel may be moved with the exception of the Communion Table – this must remain as is and may only hold a unity candle or flower arrangements. The baptistery may be moved on the chancel or to the floor beside the steps if desired. Chancel area should be returned to it’s pre-wedding state before leaving.
° Absolutely no rice or birdseed is to be used inside or outside the church and if you are going to have petals for the flower girl to put on the floor they must be silk flowers, not real.
° No-drip candles are permissible and can be used in the ceremony on the chancel. A protective plastic will be underneath the candles to prevent marking the communion table.
° Nothing may be attached to the walls of the church unless it can be removed without leaving a mark.
° Decorations attached to the chairs or other furniture should not leave any residue or cause any damage to the furniture.
° Photographers must check with the pastor regarding flash pictures and any restrictions on photographs during the ceremony.
° Trash will be bagged and placed by the kitchen door.
° Church to be left in as good a shape as it was found before the wedding.
