PHILOSOPHY/CURRICULUM OF LEARNING LANE PRESCHOOL

The LLP is license exempt by the State of Missouri. LLP provides a planned program, including snack, for young children, 3 to 5 years old. The focus of our program is active learning, which we believe is the way young children construct knowledge. The daily routine, learning environment, adult/child interaction and assessment are all important parts of our curriculum.

Our program adds to and strengthens the experiences and training provided for at home. It encourages:
1. A healthy self concept.
2. Independence and adequacy in routine tasks.
3. Expressing and comprehension of ideas.
4. Creativeness.
5. Responsiveness to others.
Our program also supplies activities that are difficult to provide at home:
1. A group of children the same age with whom to “play”.
2. The supervision by early childhood professional staff.
3. Special equipment designed especially for the child.

Play is a very important part of a developmentally appropriate preschool program. “Play” is a child’s work. It is the young child’s way of reaching out to learn about the world around. The child has uninterrupted periods of play time in which to enjoy self-chosen activities. With a variety of materials-paints, paper, clay, blocks – the child is encouraged to work out individual ideas and creativity.
Children will learn colors, letters, to recognize their own name, the use of scissors and other skills important to development during pre-kindergarten years.

The outdoor playground is available to the children and a large activity area is available during inclement weather.

A preschool setting is often the child’s first opportunity to expand the world of people and ideas. Learning to adjust to others, to have confidence in adults other than parents, and to develop independence in action and thought are important to emotional growth.
